Economic situation
Yemen’s economy has historically been based on three pillars: agriculture, hydrocarbons (oil now in decline, gas exports at a standstill) and remittances from migrant workers, particularly from Saudi Arabia. Natural gas is being exploited (exports are currently at a standstill) and offers vast prospects. Even before 2015, the situation of extreme economic fragility made international financial support essential.
